Service to others is an ideal shared by the world's religious and ethical traditions. Service not only provides for the welfare of those in need, it is a character-building practice that helps the provider know him or herself and discover new capacities.
The Youth Federation for World Peace encourages and sponsors service work in all sectors of society. Guided by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by 189 nations and signed by 147 heads of state and governments during the UN Millennium Summit in September 2000, YFWP's efforts support broad governmental and volunteer sector responses to the world's main development challenges. The MDGs have eight objectives, to be achieved by 2015: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Achieve universal primary education Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Promote gender equality and empower women Reduce child mortality Improve maternal health Ensure environmental sustainability Develop a global partnership for development
The YFWP seeks to develop a culture of service that emphasizes inner transformation as well as objective results. Concentrating on conflict regions, our service work recognizes the important role of building relationships, so that each side gains a new perspective and each becomes a stakeholder in achieving material results and building lasting peace.
