Building a Culture of Service Beyond  Religion, Ethnicity, and Nationality

From the founding of the Peace Corps to the ancient notion that we are our brothers' keepers, the imperative of living for the sake of others has been central to the world's faith and ethical traditions.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
                                                  —Mahatma Gandhi

Service is a key component of YFWP's young leadership training. YFWP's service initiatives not only address local needs but are designed to bring growth through the practice of breaking down historic boundaries. In conflict regions such as the Middle East, Nepal, and Mindanao, these initiatives draw volunteers from all sides and from diverse racial and religious backgrounds to forge bonds of trust, as young men and women work side by side.

Though international service and by caring for the less fortunate, young leaders gain insight into the realities of life of those traditionally seen as"enemies" or the "other," and experience personal transformation that can ultimately lead to a sustainable and equitable peace. YFWP service initiatives are designed to further the realization of the UN Millennium Development Goals to care for the world's most at-risk populations.

“Life's most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”
                              —Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
